Nothing Error http://www.meganboonephotography.net/index.cfm?postID=199 http://www.meganboonephotography.net/index.cfm?postID=199 Tue, 28 Sep 2010 13:11:00 GMT
And guess what? The time has come. What's more, is that not only has the album been released but the band was awesome enough to post a few tracks on Reverb Nation, so you can hear them right this very second.

I'm not a stranger to musicians, or bands for that matter (and yes, there is a distinguishable difference between the two), in fact, for better or worse, I've been drawn to them like a moth to a flame for nearly all of my life. What I've found interesting lately, is watching the evolution of musicians. It is an easy development to watch unfold considering that most start when they are teenagers. The members of this band are a great example of the progression that happens when an artist keeps going, without compromise.

The band is fronted by Doug Hill, who also happens to own Mental Records. I think we'd all agree that the only thing cooler than being a lead singer/songwriter is owning an indie record label, yeah? As humble as he is, the truth is that he goes to great lengths to support not just fellow musicians but music and the arts in schools. I could really go on about just how much he does and gives, but, like I said, low-key people don't like it when you give too much away about them.

Then there is Eric Von Radics, who not only owns the second prettiest PRS I've ever seen, but happens to play in more local bands than I've been able to keep up with. More importantly he runs Musichead in downtown Medford, which, I decided the last time that I was there needs its own blog entry and photo essay. I probably don't have to tell you how important it is to support your local indie record store, because you are already doing that, RIGHT?

On the drums, Jeff Turner, who just so happened to be in Skiploader (so underrated) and like all wonderfull relics from the '90s you can watch the youtube video to "n2o" and see Jeff with his Sick Boy-esque hair.

(embeded object)

Drummers always have great hair.

And then there is David Hitchcock, who, like most bass players is a total enigma, about whom I know nothing.

Oh, except for that he has nice shoes, which, I suppose is all you really need to know about someone.

Oh, and did I mention that Page Hamilton worked on this album? Enough said.

Until then, here are some details of their gorgeous day!

I never noticed how beautiful a golf ball could be. All it took was a big 'ol diamond to get my attention.

This wedding season was just a wondrous sea of shoes. I really can't pick a favorite pair. But these are certainly in the running.

This flower girl seriously made my day. She was so enthusiastic and spunky.

The country club has one of the most spectacular views in the valley. If you are a bride looking around I highly recommend that you check out this location.

Every so often, couples will decide to sneak off to a secret spot to meet each other before walking down the aisle. And oh my goodness gracious, I dare the most jaded individual to remain dry-eyed when witnessing the look in a man's eyes when he sees his bride for the first time.

There are so many words you can use to describe that moment. Magical, powerful, staggering, incredible, awesome. But, they just don't come close to doing the moment justice.

Enough of the apologies, and on to the Details!

I've often said that because I am, somewhere deep down, perpetually seven-years old, I am a wedding photographer. All the beautiful princess dresses and flowers just never get old. And you know, I've never seen anyone look quite as much like Cinderella as Teesha (more proof of that later this week).

I feel like a broken record telling you once again that Enchanted Florist did a perfect job on the flowers.

I loved the Aspen branch centerpieces. So much so, in fact, that if you stop by my house next month there is a good chance you will see a variation of this.

More of Teesha ... Jake's big day later this week!

After that story, I've always called this phenomenon the Rabbitt Effect. When I met Jennifer and Loren, and they told me where they'd like to have an engagement shoot - Silverton - I'd never heard of the sleepy small town. I can say that is far from the case now. Soon after, it seemed that no matter where I turned I was hearing SOMETHING about Silverton. Sunset did two different blurbs about it, someone at a dinner party told me a random piece of trivia about it, and so on. It is always times like this that I start to think that there is some sort of providence behind the couples that I get to work with.

These two are certainly no exception.

Not to mention the fact that it was absolutely, positively raining buckets during the majority of this day. Even during this picture. But somehow, and some way, we made it work, and it turned out to be such a lovely shoot.

Not to mention, SUCH a lovely town.

Isn't this picture proof-positive that I grew up in the '90s?

On the other hand, sometimes I feel compelled to share my thoughts, thoughts about things like why egg yolks should be orange and not yellow (it's the beta-carotene from the grass that the chickens should be able to roam and eat), or why it is worrisome to me that caged hens produce eggs that are all the same size, all the same color. Same, same, same.

So, instead of rattling off alarming caged hen statistics, perhaps pictures can convey my thoughts on organic eggs in a far more subtle manner. Because really, there are few things more beautiful than an organic egg that you know was given to you by a very happy hen.

Look how each is so distinctly different, just as it should be. Do I even need to mention that they taste better?

I mean, it has been YEARS of weddings. And that is when I realized that I'm a lot like an athlete (aside from the abs). There is superstition. There are never-ending days of practice and grueling refinement. And then, there is game day, in which I get so nervous that I think I need to constantly pee, and then, when the game starts, time stands still, and The Zone is entered.

I shoot, I score. I get thirsty. I enjoy all of it. I lose myself in the moment. I miss shots, but I always win. Because I have Gap argyle socks.

There was indeed a lot of drama leading up to this wedding. Unpredictable Oregon weather. Not one, but TWO assistants canceling. And, of course, the sock debacle.

But all of that, was in the past when I found out that the bride was wearing blue suede Louboutins. I breathed a long sigh of relief, because all is exactly as it should be in the Universe when you are part of wedding in which the bride wears blue suede Louboutins.

In fact, I would venture to say that I really don't need to give you any more examples of why Caitlin is perhaps one of the most stunning people that I have ever met. Sure, I could tell you that she studied for and took the MCAT while planning this wedding. I could tell you that she once, at a very young age, told an adult that she obviously could never get lost on a nature hike that she orchestrated for her wee friends because they followed the linear path of a creek. Or I could tell you that she ran the New York Marathon.

I could tell you all of that, but the Loubs make my point just as well. Awesome.

Enchanted Florist did the flowers. Of course. I'll probably start making enemies with how often I plug them on this site. Oh well. It is worth it; they are hands down the best.

Blair is so dreamy. Caitlin's father calls him Cougar Bait. Fitting.

Daris! http://www.meganboonephotography.net/index.cfm?postID=190 http://www.meganboonephotography.net/index.cfm?postID=190 Wed, 19 May 2010 13:06:00 GMT Biggest Loser episode, I'm afraid I'll be throwing a slight kink in the plans.

Firstly, I have to say (and by no means do I try to make EVERYthing about me) but the only reason I watched this season was because Daris is from my hometown, Ardmore, Oklahoma! Considering that I get homesick from time to time, there was something a bit thrilling about getting to see the people, places, and things that I find myself homesick about on primetime TV. I didn't really think it would be THAT big of a deal until that first episode with the opening shot of main street; it actually gave me chills, but then again, I'm moved by pictures, so maybe I'm not as cheesy as I feel I am to admit that.

As the weeks went by, I was still given those precious glimpses of home, and more importantly, my favorite BBQ restaurant. But then, something interesting happened and I started to realize that I was no longer watching the show because of that hometown connection. In fact, I was becoming more and more impressed with Daris.

I can't really comment enough on his personality. Firstly, what a GREAT sense of humor. He is always at least smirking if not outright smiling. And I think that the fact that he's lost 150 pounds should speak volumes for his dedication and determination.

But here is the part that really gets me. HE RAN A MARATHON. Not only did he run a marathon, but I think his time was like 4:02 or something thereabouts. HE RAN A MARATHON.

Unbelievable. He's done a tremendous job representing my home. Anyway, he needs votes to get into the final 3. So go and vote. NOW.

NOW. Do it.

I shot their wedding a mere days after this shoot. I was beyond impressed with how happy and relaxed they both were. I'm not so sure most brides are this serene 3 days prior...

My favorite. Why am I such a sucker for kissy engagement shots?

There are a handful of prime examples of why I have the best job I'd like to show you. One, it is not uncommon for people to say, "Hey, let's go practice dancing in that field over there." Most people don't hear that while working.

Two, we get to hang out in front of libraries.

Three, there are shopping breaks.

It was hailing on me during this photo. If you look closely, you can see the concern Caitlin had about it in her eyes. I didn't care though, because we had a grand time!

More photos of their gorgeous wedding to come!

Morgan & Trevor http://www.meganboonephotography.net/index.cfm?postID=186 http://www.meganboonephotography.net/index.cfm?postID=186 Fri, 23 Apr 2010 15:18:00 GMT
So for this shoot, I was excited not just about the California aspect, but also the specific town. I have a fondness for Yreka after a particularly fun road trip with my dad a few years ago. I also just can't seem to get enough of Gold Rush towns. That cowboy-meets-Victorian aesthetic is a great example of function and form coming together to make art out of life.

Then pair all of this with two of the most laid-back, ready-for-ANYTHING couples, and man, oh man, you get a terrifically great shoot.

That wonderful California light that can't be replicated...

When Morgan suggested that we shoot in the downtown area, I IMMEDIATELY thought about this little barber shop. I was very taken with it on my first visit there. I really, really wanted to shoot in there, but I was nervous about asking. I ask to take pictures lots of places, and you can never really gauge if people will give you the "yea" or "nay," and usually if I'm turned down, I shrug it off and move on. I really didn't want to get shot down on this one though, so I got somewhat manipulative, and took pictures in front of the window so the guys in there could see us. I even flashed a few Scarlett O'Hara simper-esque smiles their way. After I felt the wheels had been greased as much as they could be, we went in, told them what we were doing, and the guy says, "Of course you can, I remember you from a couple of years back. You came in with your dad and a little kid. You really liked it in here."

WHA?!!! He was right, I really did. So not only did he let us come in, but he even gave us props! So fantastic.

This one is my favorite:

DISCLAIMER - DO NOT CONTINUE TO SCROLL DOWN BEFORE READING!!!

...because I got some 'splainin' to do. At various points in my life, I've always set up non-negotiables with myself. You know, those little vows that you make with yourself and believe deep in your heart of hearts you will never go back on. When I was in the seventh grade (and fully entrenched in the Grunge movement) never shopping at J.C. Penney was a non-negotiable. At some point a couple of years ago on a road trip, I vowed never to eat at Arby's. These are just a couple of examples; there have been many non-negotiables over the years. Some I've stuck to better than others (never use plastic bags...unless you forget to put the canvas ones in your car AGAIN). BUT the unfortunate thing about vowing is that sometimes you just go back on your word. Whether it is is a four-year-old asking to please PLEASE eat at the "red hat house" (Bren code for Arby's) or a sale on towels, sooner or later those things that were once non-negotiable somehow get negotiated.

Enter photo shoots on train tracks. Now, I'll preface this as delicately as possible because I know a lot of photographers read my blog and I also know that a lot of them LOVE to shoot on train tracks. And please believe that by no means do I want to offend; I have no other clever way to phrase it, other than I just HATE photo shoots on train tracks. Not. My. Thing. So how did we wind up here? I'm not sure. For one thing, we were having FUN. We had already snuck into a Masonic temple and considered jumping a massive barbed wire fence if it weren't for that pesky alarm. And I think when it was proposed that we hop in the car to go to the non-negotiable, Morgan described it as being named the Blue Goose (interesting), and then maybe said something about an old train depot. Which, OBVIOUSLY, one would equate old train depot with, you know TRACKS, but for some reason I was picturing a depot on its own. And remember, I am from Oklahoma, and am subsequently a sucker for a good depot.

So, that is my disclaimer. I did a photo shoot on some train tracks. And guess what? It was a pretty great adventure and I'm so glad that we did it.

Absolutely SO looking forward to your wedding, guys. Thanks for such a great day!

But all of this is a problem when it comes to blogging. The truth of the matter is that I like what I do. More than that, I get to choose who I work with, which means that I like them, too. Invariably, this leads to really great photo shoots. And as bad experiences produce good stories, really good experiences lead to...boring blogs.

I really do just find myself wanting to gush like a school girl after shoots like this.

LIke OMG, we had like soooo much fun. And we got like pictures that are like soooooo OMG pretty.

This one is my favorite of the day. I think kissing in the rain outside of Saks is truly perfection.

I think it is best to put absolutely no explanation of this.

I must also add, while gushing about how perfect and wonderful everything was, that it was a real treat to shoot in downtown Portland. I have never, ANYWHERE, had such polite bystanders. Everyone would dodge out of camera range while passing by, or just flat out stop and wait for me to be done. If only people in Ashland were so kind...

If you haven't gotten the notion of just how deeply cool and in love Teesha and Jake are, then I will leave them to be more of a mystery to you until their wedding. Because, man, they are STELLAR folk.

Case in point, when we were done shooting, they wanted to give away the balloons to an unsuspecting kiddo.

Yup. It was a very, very, good day.
